Cousins' Visit to New Jersey

Phil's Aunt and 2 of his cousins came by to have dinner together and to see Calvin. Calvin' finally let his "GuPo" (Phil's Aunt) play with him without crying. Probably because he's at home which he's familiar with instead of out in the city, which is where he usually sees her.

Who doesn't like to clap with their feet?

Lydia was visiting from Scan Francisco, and was giving Calvin a workout. Training those big legs for walking.

Calvin, freshly bathed. And somehow he still manages to look like he just rolled out of bed with that crazy bed head. Even though there's not really much hair yet...

Speaking of which...Calvin with Lucia's hair!

Pool Party in Scotch Plains

An old high school of mine, Jamie, invited us to a pool party at her parent's house in Scotch Plains. It turns out it was actually a birthday party for her older brother...good thing I made cookies! We were a little early so we helped them get ready by blowing up some of the floaty devices for the pool. And by help I mean Calvin tested them out in the house.

As soon as people started arriving we headed to the pool in the backyard. Calvin isn't so scared of the water anymore and actually kicks his legs while he's in the pool like he's trying to swim.

We even tried one of the floaty devices on him, but he didn't seem to like it very much. There was no bottom on it, so we had to be careful he didn't slip out.

Calvin wasn't the only one having fun with the floaty devices. Phil and Jamie decided to attempt to do a jump into the pool while landing on one of the floats. Jamie was aiming for a little yellow lounger and Phil was aiming for a dolphin...you can see for yourself how that turned out...

After Phil and Jamie's failed attempts, the birthday boy (Jamie's brother, Pat) showed everyone how it's done. He even added a flip for fun.

And for his next trick, a jump off the diving board onto the dolphin.

Sadly, Calvin was cranky so we ended up leaving before they started eating, so no food pictures (-__-)

Congee Village

Another weekend trip into the city for lunch at Congee Village with Phil's family. This time it was just Kevin, Lucia and his Aunt Chan. It was a pretty hot day out, so Calvin wasn't very happy. Especially since I made him wear his sun hat. He looks so big in this stroller...

We put Calvin in the high chair at the restaurant and pushed him forward so he could sit at the table with us like a big boy.

We ordered a pumpkin fried rice, which they serve in a shelled out pumpkin. i think the pumpkin is baked, which is why it takes longer to make. It was really good though. Definitely worth the wait.

It was so good Kevin started to eat the top - can't let it go to waste!

Calvin started to get a little antsy in his seat so Lucia took him to explore the tile mural on the wall.

After lunch we headed to Hester Street fair for some dessert - the usual ice cream sandwiches. While we were walking around we came across a stand that was selling twinkie topped cupcakes. It hink they're supposed to resemble the little Despicable Me characters. Very cute.

We even got to see Calvin's puppy friend from the week before.

Before heading home we hung out at Lucia's place for a little bit. Calvin had fun playing with daddy - being flipped upside down...

and squished...

Van's 1st Birthday

Calvin's pal, Van, celebrated his 1st birthday. His mom went all out with the decorations. It was a candy theme, complete with airheads, blow pops, jolly ranchers, sour patch kids, swedish fish, oreos and of course cupcakes. Everything looked so nice everyone was afraid to touch anything.

Here is the happy birthday boy, Van.

Calvin and Maddy played in the backyard with Grandma and Veronica. Calvin kept watching all of the bigger kids playing in the pool.

Maddy with her Uncle Nahn.

Calvin and Auntie Mandy hanging out.

Birthday boy Van and his grandpa.

Finally, we let Calvin have some pool time. He got to sit in his favorite spot - daddy's shoulders. It was especially helpful in this case to keep him farther away from all of the older kids splashing around.

After Calvin had enough swimming I got him all dry and snug in his towel.

Sometimes I wonder if he wasn't really born in the year of the pig and not the year of the tiger...he certainly knows how to lounge very well.
I think they were saving the present opening for later, but we made Van open our presents first. He seemed more excited about the wrapping paper, although I guess that's pretty much how it goes with babies.

The first of many birthdays to come. Like a certain someone whose birthday is quickly approaching at the end of August...

July 4th BBQ #2 - Bridgewater

Our 2nd BBQ on July 4th weekend was at Mandy and Tam's place. As always, Mandy was very excited to see her nephew.

And we were excited to see Maddy too. My mom was so excited because of the "take me to grandma's" bib. Oh, grandparents...

Calvin has gotten a little bit better at playing with Maddy. And by better I mean, he doesn't cry the whole time and try to push her or pull her hair. Now he just stares at her with the stink eye...

A few of Mandy and Tam's friends came by for the BBQ as well. Poor babies surrounded by all of these tall people!

While we ate we had to put the babies into baby jail again. They look so cute trying to break out together.

July 4th BBQ #1 - Queens

For July 4th weekend we went to 2 BBQs. The first was at Phil's parents' house in Queens. As usual his mom prepared LOTS and LOTS of meat on a stick. I think the beef ones are usually the most popular - the secret is the honey!

Calvin went as Charlie Brown and was having fun exploring and just generally getting into trouble, especially now that he's more mobile.

We spent some time outside and in the garage to keep Phil's dad company while he grilled. There was so much meat he was grilling the whole time. Calvin was watching very intently, probably wondering when he'd get to eat some...maybe next year...

Calvin's second cousin, Eva, was at the BBQ as well, and kept trying to give Calvin girl kisses. I don't think Calvin really liked it, but she did manage to sneak in at least one!

The rest of the time Calvin and Eva were either pushing each other around...

Or Calvin just tried to run away entirely....

I'm sure these videos will make for great blackmailing when Calvin gets older ^__^
