Today one of my old college roommates came by to visit with her 8 month old, Mai. Isn't she the cutest?!
Phil got a chance to do some practicing in preparation for our own little one, baby Calvin. Coming soon to a Jersey Diary near you! So stay tuned ^__^

NYC Lunchtime in the Heat Wave
We made another trip out to the city to meet up with Phil's family. We were running a little late and to top it all off it was one of the hottest days. I think it was in the 90s, though with the baby for a space heater it felt like 100 - gotta love the summer heat wave!
For lunch we headed to Congee Village. Congee Village is always a favorite, but I think the main reason is because everyone wanted to watch the World Cup games on their big TV screen. Phil looking on while his Aunt Chan works on the noodles.
Of course you can't go to Congee Village without ordering some Congee (rice porridge).

We ordered some of the standard stuff, like the garlic chicken
Some noodles with pork and green onions.

Crispy noodles with beef, peppers and onions.
Beef noodle and fried tofu.
And of course the Chinese fried donuts with sweet sauce. There was so much food my stomach was about to pop when we were done.
We decided to walk off lunch a little bit back at the Hester Street Fair. We didn't dare stay out to long in the heat, but we did manage to pass by a stand selling cute little sock monkeys and sock elephants. So cute!
We hung out at Lucia's apartment for a while until Phil got his second wind and started craving something sweet. There was a new dessert place, fittingly named "Desserts"! Considering it was right across the street from Lucia's apartment, which in the heat was a major plus, we decided to give it a try.

The Meatball Shop
After our trip to California we didn't make it back into NYC for a couple of weeks. We were headed to a late lunch, but decided to make a quick stop back to the Hester Street Fair - its become a favorite stop for us this past summer. Phil decided to try the BBQ pulled pork this time.
It was delicious!
Phil's Aunt Chan and cousin Lydia are snacking on some Luke's lobster rolls.
Kevin tried a spicy dish from the Korean food stand.
After our quick light snack we headed to our lunch destination. Along the way we passed some NYC "street art" - an abandoned bicycle that was completely covered over with yarn. Very colorful.
For lunch we headed over to a place called The Meatball Shop.
They had an interesting menu concept where the menus were laminated and you just mark off your order with erasable marker. Kevin and Lucia had a little too much fun with the menu.
