Cleveland Day 4 - Tobogganing

Rebecca and Steve had a big day planned for us on New Year's day, so we made sure to get a nice big breakfast. We went to Bob Evan's, which is kind of like an IHOP. Since they don't have any on the east coast Phil had been craving Bob Evan's ever since we decided to go to Cleveland.

I ordered a standard egg and sausage breakfast, nothing fancy.

Phil had some country skillet type dish that came with biscuits and a giant bowl of gravy.

Time to chow down so we can build up our energy. Steve's ready to go!

After breakfast we headed over to the Cleveland Metroparks for some Tobogganing at their Chalet Chutes. This was the first time for Phil and me. It's basically like a roller coaster or a water slide on a sled. There's just one hill with 2 alternating lanes. Once you drop down the hill there are some rubber flaps at the end to help slow you down, but after that the track ends and you just glide on the snow until you stop. If your sled is heavy enough you can almost glide all the way to the road. (That was almost us a couple of times)

We got our passes and we're ready to go!

First we had to pick a sled. So we had Phil pick the sled while Rebecca and I took a picture ^__^

Next we had to carry the sled up the wooden stairs (which incidentally were completely covered in ice) and wait on line.

That looks like a long way down...

Who's that creepy guy behind me and Phil? Don't worry, it's just Steve making creepy faces. ^__~

After we waited on line for a while it started to snow a little harder. All of us started to get covered in snow. Poor Phil looks so cold, hugging the sled for warmth.

What could the boys be laughing at when it's so cold outside?

We were going to try and take a video on the way down the tobogganing slope, but I was too afraid of dropping the camera. Especially since all you have to hold you onto the sled are 2 dinky ropes tied to the sled and the person in front of you gripping your feet under their armpits...There's a video on the Cleveland Metroparks website though. (I know, not as fun, but I prefer my camera in one piece.)

In between rides down the slope we took refuge indoors where they sold food and hot chocolate and had fireplaces where you could warm yourself up. We ordered some hot chocolate to warm ourselves and get ready to wait out in the snow again.

After 4 pretty good runs down the slope it started getting dark so we decided to call it quits, but not before Phil got a chance to warm his bum at the fire place.

For dinner we headed to Oberlin to the Oberlin Inn. They still had up pretty decorations from Christmas.

Now time for the good stuff - the food. We had some of their vegetable soup, which was pretty good. They even give you the good Club crackers.

We ordered some bruschetta for the table. The vinegar was very strong.

Everybody got a salad with the meal.

And Phil and I both ordered different kinds of pasta dishes. I ordered the Portobello Mushroom Penne. Lots of spinach that's for sure.

Phil ordered the Fettuccine Chicken Parmesan. That's a lot of pasta sauce!

The best part is we had 2 BOGO (buy one get one) coupons for dinner. Gotta love coupons! ^__~
