California Day 3 - To Tahoe!

On our 3rd day in California we started our road trip to Lake Tahoe. Along the way we stopped by the San Francisco Creamery. This place was featured in Man Vs. Food for their giant "kitchen sink" ice cream sundae - three sliced bananas, 8 giant sized scoops ice cream (though I swear it's more than 8 scoops) of up to 8 flavors, 8 servings of toppings, and topped with whipped cream, chopped toasted almonds and cherries. There's no way we were going to come so close and not take a visit!

The whole cousin clan getting ready to chow down - Phil, Winnie, Alex, Lydia, Lucia, Ray, Lea, Wally and Kevin.

If you order the Kitchen Sink you get a special menu where you get to list all your ice cream and topping choices. It's all very official.

You can see them make the Kitchen Sink behind the ice cream counter. First they start off with their special kitchen sink to hold the ice cream. And once you pile on all the ice cream and toppings...

You get this! They have a food challenge where you can win free ice cream for a year if you can finish this whole thing by yourself in 30 minutes. Some guy even did it in 7 minutes!!

Good thing I brought the baby belly. Kevin and I are ready to get to work! ^__~

It was a little gross when the ice cream started melting and running down the side, but it was still soooo good!

And finally we made it to the bottom of the kitchen sink. It was a lot of ice cream, but split between 10 people it didn't seem like that much. I could have eaten more ^__~

That's me pretending to lick the kitchen sink clean. The baby made me do it!

Before we left I made sure to get a picture of Phil with the Man Vs. Food photo.

After filling our stomachs with ice cream we continued our drive to Lake Tahoe. The scenery along the way was so beautiful.

But as we got closer to our final destination the weather started doing funny things...and we ended up driving through a bit of a snow blizzard. At one point we got stuck on the road in a long line of traffic while I think they were clearing the snow from the road. Who knew we'd see snow while vacationing in California in May?!

Once we got past Donner Pass though the weather cleared up again. Thank goodness!

Finally we reached Tahoe City where we had rented out a big cabin.

The cabin was even nicer than the pictures online. When you walk into the front door it opens up into the living room that leads into the dining room and kitchen. Everything was very open, and the high ceilings made it seem that much bigger.

When you look up from the living room you can see the master bedroom upstairs.

This is the kitchen, which Lucia was very excited about.

Past the kitchen were 2 other bedrooms. The first one had a bunk bed and another twin bed.

Next to that was another bedroom which had an attached bathroom.

This is the master bedroom that was upstairs. Phil and I stayed in this room. There's even a balcony to the outside, but we didn't really use it.
And the master bath attached. Lucia really liked the jacuzzi tub.

You can see the whole downstairs from the landing outside the master bedroom. Everyone is still checking out the rest of the cabin.

The last space was the "game room" in the basement. There was even a sign on the wall that said "game room". Almost as soon as we arrived in the cabin some of the cousins already started setting up the TV with all the gaming systems everyone brought. There's even a balcony that goes outside from the game room.

After everyone got settled in there was a quick trip to the nearby supermarket to pick up some food supplies, and then the girls started getting ready to cook up dinner.

They decided with all these capable cooks around now would be a good time to teach cousin Alex how to cook, so he joined the girls in the kitchen to help fry up some chicken cutlets.

In the meantime I took a little rest...I don't know why I was so tired - I blame it on the high altitude...that's my story and I'm sticking to it... ^__~

Then it was dinner time. Complete with salad...

Spaghetti and chicken cutlets, aka Chicken Parm as I was informed. I think there was another meat dish in there somewhere too.

All in all a good start to our time in Tahoe.
