Cleveland Visitors/Eating Tour Day 2

Day 2 with Steve and Rebecca we decided to head into the city. Luckily it was a beautiful day out. But before we left we made a stop to show them the park across the street from our house. The park is pretty big, complete with baseball field, basketball court, playground and outdoor gym. Steve tested out the gym area and got in a quick morning workout!

And of course someone had to slide down the slide. We'll just pretend we didn't see the message saying the slide is for kids only...

Our first stop in the city was the Chatham Square restaurant for dim sum. Rebecca and Steve look excited to begin the day of eating festivities that we had planned.

Yummy Chatham Square dim sum - stuffed egg plants, shumai, and other dim sum classics.

After dim sum we headed down funeral road - a street lined with funeral homes - to pick up some beef jerky. I know, what a lovely place for a beef jerky store, but the beef jerky is so good. We're talking about fresh authentic Chinese beef jerky, not the American kind you find in supermarkets. On the way there we passed a hotel grand opening, and as with any grand opening in Chinatown it was complete with drums and a lion dance.

The best part of the grand opening though was that they busted out this giant crane that took up half the street just to hang a head of lettuce for the lion dance...the lettuce head is hard to see, but trust me it's there. I circled it in red, but I'm not sure if you can see it...

Our next stop was was the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory for some dessert. The Chinatown Ice Cream Factory has lots of unique flavors like almond cookie and lychee. This place is always packed. Rebecca, Steve and I stood outside enjoying our ice cream.

After ice cream we decided to take a walk to the South Street Seaport. Along the way we passed an interesting ad that the guys just had to take a picture with...In case you can't tell, yes, that's the butt of someone sitting on top of someone else's shoulders with a smiley face drawn on.

At the South Street Seaport we went out to the deck to look across at the scenic view of the bridges.

Next we headed back to the Chinatown area and made our way to the Hester Street Fair. We had to share the secret of the yummy La Newyorkina fruit popsicles. One of the tents at the fair was selling old school cameras. They were too interesting not to take a picture.

Although we'd already technically had 2 desserts with the ice cream and popsicles we made our way to our next stop, Stuffed Artisan Cannolis, for dessert number 3. Phil and I had been here before with some of his cousins and it was too good of a place not to share. Steve and Rebecca were excited to try the unique cannoli flavors.

Phil and I ordered the banana creme, hazlenut cannolis.

At some point during our day 2 food tour we also stopped by the Bao Haus, but for some reason I don't have any pictures...In any case, after the cannolis we headed back to NJ for dinner. Our destination was Stuff Yer Face in downtown New Brunswick. They are famous for their strombolis (aka boli). Phil had taken me there once before. Since it was a weekend the place was packed with college kids. We were seated outside, and Steve and Rebecca got their first glimpse of the massive boli menu.

Steve had ordered a beer (I forget the name), that reminded me a lot like an old school bottle of cough syrup or something. But he seems happy drinking it, so it must be good whatever it is.

After a long wait the food finally arrived. As you can see Phil was starving by this time and ready to chow down.

Even a full day of eating didn't seem to slow Phil down. At one point he was double fisting his bolis.

We filled our bellies with bolis and went back to our house to eat the mango donuts we had picked up at the Doughnut Plant in NY. I know, hard to believe we could fit any more dessert, but we found a way ^__^

Whew! I warned you there would be a lot of eating. But don't go away - there's one more day left in our Eating Tour with our friends from Ohio.
